Building More Than Playgrounds: infraMOD’s Investment in Oxbow’s Future
The Saskarc Design & Detailing Differentiator in Support of Excavation - Chapter 3
On a brisk prairie morning in Oxbow, Saskatchewan, in a town with just over 1,200 residentsand nearly one in five people is under the age of 15, the sound of children’s laughter carries easily across Main Street.
For families here, the Oxbow Community Childcare Centre (OCCC) is more than a building at 318 Main Street. Since opening its doors in June 2013 with 33 licensed and subsidized spaces, it has been a lifeline for working parents and a first classroom for children aged 18 months to 12 years.
The Centre is built on a philosophy that nurtures the “whole” child, whether it is socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually. Driven by that ethos, it has long strived to create a safe and enriching environment where every child can grow and succeed.
Like many rural childcare centers across Canada, OCCC faced a familiar challenge: space was limited, waitlists were growing, and the outdoor play area needed to better reflect the Centre’s commitment to holistic development. In a small but steadily growing
community, up 2.9% year-over-year, families rely heavily on local infrastructure. When childcare thrives, so does the town.
Recognizing the need for a safe, educational outdoor playground, the Centre launched a community fundraising initiative with an estimated project cost of $40,000.
The goal was ambitious. To build an outdoor space that would spark imagination, encourage physical activity, and provide developmentally appropriate experiences aligned with the Centre’s values.
That’s where infraMOD stepped in.
As part of its community outreach and support initiatives, infraMOD contributed to the Oxbow Community Childcare Centre Outdoor Playground project.
The contribution was formally shared by Roy, infraMOD’s Managing Director, with a representative of the Centre, a moment that reflects our shared commitment to community growth.
While infrastructure is often associated with steel, concrete and large-scale developments, infraMOD’s involvement in Oxbow tells a different story. One where infrastructure begins at ground level, in the sandbox and on the swings. A playground may seem simple, but for a rural childcare center, it represents opportunity. A place where confidence is built one step at a time, where social skills are formed during games of tag, and where imagination takes flight.
The Centre’s sponsorship framework highlighted how every level of support would directly impact children and families, reinforcing the collective effort behind the build. For Oxbow, this was never just about equipment. It was about creating a space that reflects the children’s interests and supports their holistic development.
In small communities, partnerships matter. Businesses, families and local organizations are tightly woven together. When infraMOD chose to support the playground, it strengthened that fabric. Demonstrating that corporate responsibility is not confined to boardrooms but lives in everyday community spaces.
Today, as children climb, slide and explore their new outdoor environment, the impact is tangible. Parents have greater peace of mind. Educators have a richer setting for learning and Oxbow has one more reason to feel proud of what can be accomplished when community and industry come together.
In the end, the Oxbow Community Childcare Centre playground is more than a project. It is a testament to a shared vision. For infraMOD, contributing to the laughter echoing across that playground is perhaps the most meaningful infrastructure investment of all
